Mid Wales based Zip-Clip is an award winning designer and manufacturer of high-specification wire rope suspension and bracing solutions. The company serves a diverse range of sectors, including electrical, mechanical, heating, ventilation, construction and seismic.
Located in Welshpool, the firm has worked on flagship projects including the London 2012 Olympics, World Cup stadiums, Amazon Data Centres and London’s new US Embassy.
It exports to over 40 countries around the world, with international sales representing 50% of its turnover.
Beginning its journey in Newtown, the business subsequently relocated to Welshpool, becoming a strong employer in the area and from day one, Zip-Clip has worked with the Welsh Government to support its growth.
Over the past year, Zip-Clip has signed a string of export deals in territories across the globe.
In New Zealand, its recently launched Zip-Splice+ system has been acquired by the region’s largest concrete reinforcement group, Fletcher Reinforcing. Additionally, Zip-Clip has introduced a new product tailored for New Zealand sprinkler systems, the IEEE Seismic Sprinkler system, which has now been approved by one the world’s major insurers, AON, for fire protection.
The company has also been involved in several seismic defence projects across New Zealand’s North and South Islands, as well as in Mexico - a new export market for Zip-Clip, having recently entered for the first time.
As a major player within the Welsh manufacturing sector, Zip-Clip works closely with BEAMA, the trade association for energy infrastructure and systems, alongside a number of other high profile Welsh firms.
The company sits on a steering group – CMPG (cable management product group within BEAMA) - a cluster group that works with ten of the largest cable management businesses in the UK to develop systems that safeguard critical areas.
Zip-Clip employs over 50 people at its Welshpool location across a range of roles in manufacturing, engineering, administrative, sales and management. They are currently recruiting within Wales to help deliver on the company’s future plans, which include launching a new range of civil engineering products and its involvement in Ukraine Build.
Zip-Clip attributes much of its success to the strength of Wales’ business support system, particularly the wealth of expertise within the Welsh Government. The founders acknowledge this has put them on the right path when developing new products, particularly in areas like intellectual property and export.
“One thing the Welsh Government does very well is to protect and support your company with the knowledge that they have. We’ve worked with various elements of Welsh Government business support services, they understand our business and offer sound advice and guidance which allows us to make informed decisions with confidence. Without the help of the Welsh Government we would have been behind the curve in a lot of ways and certainly not doing as well as we are today.”
