Pembroke Dock Marine is built upon firm foundations. The region’s extensive high-skill engineering and maritime cluster, energy infrastructure and world-class marine energy resources are already proving valuable to industry. Pembroke Dock Marine will expand the proposition and ensure the region continues to deliver the maturing needs of this dynamic and fast-paced energy sector.
The project is made up of four key elements:
Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence - a technology, innovation and research centre delivered by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult.
- Marine Energy Test Area - a series of scale and component test areas within the Milford Haven Waterway led by Marine Energy Wales. (Phase one completed)
- Pembrokeshire Demonstration Zone - a 90 square kilometre floating wind and wave array test site delivered by Wave Hub Limited.
- Pembroke Port redevelopment - redevelopment of port infrastructure to maximise operational efficiency led by the Port of Milford Haven.
The initiative is already underway with further funding allowing for the acceleration of work to complete each element. This £60m project is a key element of the Swansea Bay City Deal, a strategic partnership between the 4 local authorities of south west Wales, Welsh Government and UK Government, with additional funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and through private investment. It is estimated to create at least 1500 jobs and be worth over £73.5m annually to the economy. This project will place Pembrokeshire and the Swansea Bay City Region at the heart of a growing global industry, helping further raise the region’s profile as a place to do business and invest in.
With the twin overarching aims of increasing innovation and to driving down industrial costs for developers and other industries, Pembroke Dock Marine is expected to make a powerful new ally for the UK advanced manufacturing and energy sectors.
