Net Zero Industry Wales (NZIW) is a not-for-profit, public-private sector partnership organisation, created to coordinate Wales’ industrial decarbonisation journey and support heavy industry's transition while remaining globally competitive. It provides independent guidance, convenes clusters and works with regulators, government and investors to turn net zero ambitions into concrete projects & investment.

Chief Executive, Ben Burggraaf, brings more than 20 years’ experience in energy management and net zero strategy, including senior roles at Welsh Water and Tata Steel. He describes NZIW’s role as “a neutral and trusted voice” that can bridge industry and policymakers, supporting industrial clusters such as SWIC and NEWID and hubs like the Milford Haven Energy Cluster.

Ben underlines that decarbonising heavy industry is often framed as a cost to society and communities. In reality, for Wales, it is one of the greatest economic opportunities of the 21st century. If Wales is to “continue to produce high value goods and services and protect jobs at the same time”, there is a need to align hydrogen, renewables, CCUS and infrastructure investment.

NZIW offers a joined-up picture of Wales’industrial decarbonisation pipeline and is a partner that can help navigate policy, permitting and cluster opportunities. It is a key part of the architecture that makes Wales a credible location for largescale clean energy and low carbon industrial investment.
