Wales’ energy and environment sector employs over 58,000 people generating over £4.8 billion in revenue. The sector is strong in energy and waste management, water treatment, environmental monitoring and the built environment.
We have an opportunity in Wales to support the delivery of fixed offshore wind as well as floating. We have significant projects proposed for fixed around our coastline in the first instance and then we will be in a strong position for floating wind. Wales can support the delivery of the ambitious offshore wind targets by ensuring we tap into the supply chain opportunities and the skills we have in Wales.
The floating offshore wind sector in Wales will contribute significantly to decarbonising the energy system for the UK – we believe it has the potential to deliver sustainable sources of energy into the future and it is also a once-in-a-generation opportunity to open up new markets for local suppliers and to create thousands of high-quality jobs in Wales.
Last year, this conference celebrated the sector "coming of age" and reaching maturity and scale. This year, the conference will focus on the urgent actions needed to reach UK and global offshore wind deployment goals for 2030 – turning ambition into action.
