The Cyber Innovation Hub (CIH) is Wales’ flagship engine for cyber security R&D, skills and startup creation, bringing together Cardiff University, industry and government to turn cutting edge research into deployable solutions… and new companies.

CIH Director, Professor Pete Burnap, has spent more than a decade building Cardiff’s Centre for Cyber Security Research into an NCSC recognised centre of excellence at the intersection of AI, data science and cyber security.

Pete’s vision for the Hub is deliberately outcome driven: a coordinated programme of realistic testbeds, challenge led innovation and specialist training that gives investors and end users something unique to come to Wales for. Having worked closely with Airbus, Thales, PwC and other major partners, he has translated the VIP demo model of large industrial labs into an open facility where organisations can “look, feel, touch” live systems and test defences against real world threats.

The Cyber Innovation Hub offers a clear route into Wales’ cyber ecosystem: access to world class academic expertise, a growing pipeline of startups and scaleups, and a talent engine aligned with industry needs. Under Pete’s leadership, it exemplifies Wales’ broader cyber offer: applied, collaborative and focused on turning research into products, companies and high value jobs.
