A globally recognised clinical services company, PCI Pharma Services display a broad variety of expertise across three facilities in Wales. Growth and ambition underpins the story of this flourishing business.
Speed, ingenuity and great service are vital in the pharmaceutical industry. PCI Pharma Services’ three sites in Wales have an impressive reputation for all three key elements. As a result, the company has been rewarded with international and national honours for innovation and trade.
Much of PCI’s good work stems from the Blaenau Gwent town of Tredegar, where Penn Pharma moved into specialist facilities 30 years ago. The company also has multiple facilities across south Wales in Treforest, Hay-on-Wye and Bridgend. “We have had terrific support for training our people to a very high level,” says Senior Vice President Richard Yarwood. He’s the leader of the highly-skilled workforce, including chemists, engineers and project managers.
Many honed their talents within the world-renowned science facilities of the Universities of South Wales and Swansea. “That’s really important,” adds Yarwood,“because we are in a regulated industry where you cannot afford to make any mistakes.”
PCI bucked the prevailing trend for outsourcing with a £14 million investment to create a new, high-capacity facility in 2013 – a government-supported move, which proved a catalyst for huge success. Strong transport links around the country allow them to work with partners and swiftly export to Japan, North America and Europe, putting Wales at the centre of their map of 14 company sites, employing over 3,000 people. The company is continually expanding. In July 2016, PCI secured more land at its flourishing Tredegar home, helping to meet customer demand worldwide while sticking to the ambitious standards that were set. Along with further expansion of the Bridgend facility, it reflects the bright future for this world class business through a combination of cutting-edge technology and local expertise.
